Sounds like you had a bit of a slog with this one! I’ve just finished reading it and, to be honest, found the best of way was to read in big chunks. That way I got used to the slightly unusual style and managed to get through it more quickly than I might have done otherwise.

Overall, a terrific read, and from one who finds a lot of history failry dry that is saying something!

I read 80% of The Sparrow about 6-7 years ago and found the end of the story so heartbreaking I put it down and sadly didn’t pick it up again.

So I’m very happy to say that the Bookclub I organise in London England, The Science Fiction Bookclub, will be reading and discussing The Sparrow in October 2011.

You must have been tired or depressed when you read it. It is a wonderful novel full of both the strains and the resilience of love. Perhaps you should reread it when you have a clearer head.
